Berlin Calling

1-    What do drugs mean to Ickarus?

They meant a lot to Ickarus.  They were a way for him to escape the reality of his     life. He was on drugs all day, because it makes him stay focus and do well in his work.

2-    Why, when, and how are his fans taking drugs, and which drugs do they take?

The fans were taking drugs at the nightclub in the bathrooms before, and     during his performance. They were using Ketamine, cocaine, and Isd. Some of them were using heroin, and also smoking weed.

3-    While we can see his habits get him ill and into a psychosis, and while we witness his relapse and inability to work successfully, why does the subculture Ickarus belongs to focus on drugs?

I think that the subculture Ickarus is in by using drugs it makes seem normal thing.  When people use drugs for the first time it feels scary, but as they continue using it, it will become normal thing.  Using dangerous kind of drugs is not acceptable by the society. 

4-    Compare the standards you know from your home society with the people you see depicted in this movie. Which are the stark differences and contrasts?

In my home society alcohol, weed or any kinds of drugs are hard to find, because it’s not legal. The drugs in my home society are not acceptable. There are a lot differences between my home and the movie.

5-    Germany is considered a strong industrial nation the world over. Do you think that the youth culture as depicted here could change that? How about work ethics of Ickarus and of Alice, the label director who fires and then re-signs him?

I do not think the youth culture would change German out of industrial nation. They cannot change it, because they are small group of people. The work ethics of Alice and Ickarus, that Alice wants to work with Ickarus but she thinks that if he continue using drugs eventually it will end his career.

6-    Which similar “cult movie” of US origin have you seen, if any?

I have not seen any movie like Brelain calling.

7-    Personal reaction.

I liked the movie and I thought it was interesting, and it’s different.  I felt like movie was real and it shows us how the life in German. The movie shows that using drugs has negative affects and make people do not want to use it.

German Food

 

               

Currrywurst is German traditional dish consisting of Pork sausage, cut in slices and flavor with ketchup “regularly consisting of ketchup or tomato paste blended with curry”. The discovery of Currywurst dish assign to Herta Heuwer in Berlin in 1949.

 

Sauerbraten is a German pot roast which can be prepared with different kind of meat, but usually prepared with beef. Before the meat is ready to be cooked it marinated for few days, in water, wine, or vinegar with spices.

Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte

Black Forest cake is the English name of the German dessert Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte. It consists of some layers of, chocolate cake, whipped cream, and cherries on the top.

Major characters of All quite on western Front

My name is Paul Bäumer, I am the main character of All quiet on Western Front.  I am 19 years solder. Before the war I was sensitive, and creative guy. I loved my family, and I also liked writing poems. The war changed my life writing poems and other parts of my past life I could not feel it. After the war end, I felt like I has nothing to do and I do not have any hopes or dream.
